“Like water in the desert is wisdom to the soul.”
EDWARD COUNSEL
From the other side, if you want to go deeper, it needs to explore the real country’s side. Traveling to the center in the country was accompanied by an armed guard, what was really wild for me to see the gun in real first in my life – it was scary. There was always a war – more or less inside the country. But it was only to protect tourists as the main income source for that incredible country. Seeing the poverty in small cities, simple houses without roofs, dirty streets wasn’t inspiring but it shown the way how people can appreciate small things and to be grateful for relative’s love and the land the love the most. There were a lot of houses without roof because it’s not often rain in there. It was really strange to see other life, other culture, a bit scary. There were some people, merchants, who were too persistent to sell their products for tourists and it was annoying. They followed us everywhere. The life in Egypt is absolutely different. People have very simple life, different industries, shops, houses. We had a unique chance to see life from inside, to see how people bake a bread, create perfumes… To walk in a city where only locals walk… And one of the most interesting and unexpected experience was…driving!!!
A camel ride
First we had a chance to see how people live in a small village, produce local products and to see the food and drinks. They invited us to taste hookah. I don’t smoke so I didn’t want to try it but was interesting that people smoke it and offer it to tourists as a part or local inviting tradition with a tea. Later we had an exclusive excursion to a small zoo in a desert were I had a chance to touch a snake and some other dangerous animals but was nice. And right after that was the most pleasant present – a camel ride. It was really amazing experience, riding this kind animal, enjoying wonderful mountain view… and it was only the first such a present driving. The next one was more extremal…
A safari in a desert
Before that trip I was sure that a desert looks differently. I thought it has very soft golden sand, very small grains of sand which extends on miles. In real the desert looks like stony field, surrounding by mountains. First we went on jeeps to the desert with local drivers, listening to local music in a good company. Then we had a chance to drive quad bikes in a desert – it was incredible feeling – I have heard the wind, the sound of quad bikes and there was an amazing view of desert and the sunset in a desert… We had to protect the body and the face, eyes from stones so we had wear an appropriate clothes. That experience was really great – I didn’t think of a traffic, any problems, I just felt freedom around me which filled me with the wind, sun and whisper of desert… I was the first one in a column of quad bikes and I set the speed and the rhythm of the rest of drivers and it felt like I’m the only in there and allowed myself to feel the speed and adrenaline. And after the sunset we had a chance to try a new experience – to drive baggi cars! Was incredible! I drove it myself, in a desert, in dark – wow… that was amazing , like a derbi… That experience I can’t forget and that was exactly was I needed to feel life around and let it fill myself!
